Over
the last decade, hundreds, if not thousands of standalone boxes
(set-tops, media managers, etc.) have been created that offer
a solution to one piece of the digital puzzle. These boxes have
littered the aisles of the CES show for years but consumers continue
to show little or no interest in purchasing them. Why? Because
these one trick ponies are ad hoc answers to what is clearly an
infrastructure question.
Enterprise
learned long ago that centralized, modular datacenters were far
more practical and cost effective. The home and SMB markets have
not learned this lesson. They are still offering standalone appliances
that may or may not work with other products in the network.
Delivering
the future of digital technology in the home and SMB requires
a system approach that will allow consumers to easily build a
customized system to meet their unique needs. The the UniStac
Personal Datacenter(tm) is just such a system.
